Paramount Pictures is diving back into the horror genre with a sequel to ‘Crawl’, the 2019 alligator-themed thriller. The studio is currently developing the follow-up and is planning a fall shoot in Europe.
Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, known for ‘Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension’ and ‘Project Almanac’, are crafting the script. Alexandre Aja, who directed the original film, will return as director and producer, alongside Craig Flores and horror legend Sam Raimi, who also produced the first movie.
‘Crawl’, penned by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, starred Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper as a father and daughter trapped in their Florida home, menaced by alligators during a Category 5 hurricane. The film was a financial success for Paramount, earning $91.5 million on a budget under $14 million.
The sequel, ‘Crawl 2’, will introduce a new cast and relocate the action to the urban environment of New York City. Gregory Levasseur and Zainab Azizi will serve as executive producers.
Director Alexandre Aja, known for ‘High Tension’ and the remake of ‘The Hills Have Eyes’, will return to helm the sequel. Aja's other notable works include ‘Piranha 3D’ and ‘Horns’.
